About the Foundation

Indelible Mark

Marion and Henry Bloch were both born and raised in Kansas City.  It was their home, as well as their four children’s home, for their entire lives.

“Kansas City has been very good to us,” said Henry.  “If it weren’t for the taxpayers who embraced Dick’s and my tax preparation experiment, H&R Block wouldn’t have become what it is today.  We owe a debt to Kansas City.”  It was the couple’s hope that the establishment of the Marion and Henry Bloch Family Foundation would help pay that debt.

Established in 2011, the Foundation is focused on the Kansas City metropolitan area.  Striving to build on Marion and Henry’s vision and values to improve the quality of life in their hometown, the Foundation supports efforts in the areas of post-secondary business and entrepreneurship education, healthcare, social services, education for low-income, underserved youth, visual and performing arts, and Jewish organizations.  In addition, special emphasis is placed on three organizations to which the founders have made lifelong commitments of support.  These organizations are the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, and the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Thanks to a remarkable vision, an uncommon determination, and extraordinary humanitarianism, Marion and Henry Bloch have achieved both success and significance.  Through their family foundation, this selfless, decent and loving couple will have a lasting impact on generations.  As Henry said, “There is so much yet to be accomplished.”
